SM Live 25th Anniversary Episode: ‘Why Is The Radio So Whack?’

SM Live is going to celebrate it’s 25th episode by tackling an issue that Strange Music only knows too well: “why is the radio so whack?”

Turn on the dial and you’ll find much of the same: people singing about stuff you can’t relate to, rapping about stuff that nobody really cares about (especially in these tough times) and over beats that sound like a techno producer’s leftovers.

• When did this shift become so drastic that almost everything you hear these days is so unbelievably terrible? (Remember, there WAS a time when mainstream did not equal terrible. 2Pac, Nirvana, Notorious BIG, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas and so many more…these are all artists that have achieved a great degree of success in terms of record sales and video play)
• How long can this go on before the world explodes?
• Who’s going to bring change to the mainstream?
• Is it even POSSIBLE to bring some change to the mainstream or do the executives that call the shots hold too much power?
